Description: Chief of Police Martin was critically injured in an automobile crash while in pursuit of a speeding motorist on April 20, 1958. While in pursuit, another car pulled out in front of Chief Martin's patrol vehicle. Chief Martin veered to the left to avoid a collision and struck a culvert and a utility pole. Chief Martin was transported to a local hospital with a fractured skull and remained there until his death seven weeks later on June 13, 1958.
