Description: Deputy Moore was shot by three members of the Bonnie & Clyde gang after attempting to place them under arrest. Deputy Moore and Sheriff Charley Maxwell answered a disturbing-the-peace complaint at a dancehall and came upon Duke Ellis, Clyde Barrow and Raymond Hamilton drinking in a nearby car. When Sheriff Maxwell went to investigate, shots rang out. Sheriff Maxwell was shot several times but survived. Deputy Moore was felled by a single bullet from a.30 caliber Stevens automatic rifle. The Bonnie and Clyde gang was responsible for the deaths of eight other officers between 1932 and 1934: Constable William Campbell, Prison Guard Joe Crowson, Deputy Malcolm Davis, Constable J.W. Harryman, Marshal H.D. Humphrey, Detective Harry McGinnis, Patrolman H. Murphy and Patrolman Edward Wheeler. Bonnie & Clyde were ambushed and killed by a posse of law enforcement officers on May 23, 1934. Raymond Hamilton was executed in 1935.
