Description: Sheriff Mason was shot by a man who was upset that his friend was being arrested for disorderly conduct. Sheriff Mason had been called to quell a disturbance at a church meeting and attempted to arrest the intoxicated suspect when the second man intervened and opened fire. Sheriff Mason returned fire, fatally wounding his assailant, who was on parole.
