Description: Captain Mullen was accidentally shot by fellow officers who thought he was the officer, also named Mullen, who had just killed Superintendent James Reynolds in a fit of rage (friendly fire). Captain Muller's brother, Terrence had been suspended and was at the station house demanding his job back when he began shooting. In the melee, Officers shouted, "Mullen is crazy and shooting!" and responded by shooting Captain Mullen. Terrence Mullen was later arrested and committed to the insane asylum where he died in 1933.
