Description: Attempting an arrest. Shot. On Friday, December 6, 1907 Officer James A. Manier, considered a giant of a man at 6?3? tall and over 260 pounds, was patrolling Peters Street at about 2PM in the afternoon. The ten year veteran observed what appeared to be a drunk staggering down the street. At the corner of Haynes and Peters Streets Officer Manier seized the subject by the coat in order to make an arrest. The suspect pulled out a gun and shot Officer Manier upward through the neck, the bullet lodged in his head. He died instantly. The suspect was pursued and apprehended by witnesses, he was hanged in 1908 following his trial.
