Description: Deputy Sheriff McDermott was injured in an accident as he refueled his department vehicle. The gas station was located on a slope and his car began to roll down the hill. Deputy McDermott leapt on the running board in an attempt to gain control of the vehicle. Seconds later he was impaled on a hook used to suspend a water hose. Deputy McDermott died while being transported to the hospital.
