Description: Marshal Melvin was killed during a moonshine operation raid conducted by local and federal agents. The lawmen had received word that a still was being operated on a farm. As the officers approached the cabin, shots were fired. A gunbattle ensued killing Marshal Melvin, BATF Agent J. H. Reynolds and wounding Deputy Manuel Fitzpatrick. Five suspects were arrested. Two suspects were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
