Description: Detective MacKay was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend an armed fugitive who was wanted for three homicides and an assault on a law enforcement officer. Detective MacKay and a fellow officer were ambushed and shot by the suspect as they exited their patrol vehicle. Detective MacKay was killed and the second officer was wounded. The suspect shot and killed University of Southern California Public Safety Officer Keith Lawrence along with his fiance and later killed Riverside (CA) Police Officer Crain. The suspect committed suicide.
