Description: Sheriff Matthews was attempting to serve a warrant for cruelty to animals to a local farmer. When he tried to gain access to the house, shots were fired through the front door. The farmer's 15 year old son shot the Sheriff on the instruction of his mother, who spoke no English, and thought the sheriff was coming to rob them. Sheriff Matthews was able to make it back to the jail and died the next day.
