Description: Sergeant McBride was shot as he attempted to escort a businessman to safety from an angry mob. Sergeant McBride, fellow Rangers and a local businessman were barricaded inside Ranger Headquarters for four days while a mob called for the businessman. After countless negotiations, it was agreed that the man would relinquish all claims to the salt mine and leave the county. When the gentleman, Sergeant McBride and a third man exited the building, they were shot. Sergeant Conrad Mortimer was killed by the same mob four days prior.
