Description: Police Officer McDermott was accidentally shot by a fellow officer while pursuing two suspicious men. Officer Joe Heinen had recently received several threats and the appearance of the strangers warranted investigation. As Officer McDermott ran across the street towards the gas station where the suspects were sitting in their vehicle, another officer mistook Officer McDermott for one of the suspects and shot him in the head and chest. The suspects fled. Officer McDermott was transported to the hospital where he died the next day (friendly fire).
