Description: Deputy Sheriff Mays was attacked and shot by two suspects to whom he had served with bench warrants three weeks earlier. Deputy Mays had subsequently received numerous threats of bodily harm from the suspects. The two suspects and several of their family members attacked Deputy Mays and his son as they left church. Deputy Mays was shot in the back and died at the scene. Four suspects were convicted of murder. Two suspects received life sentences. The other two suspects received 21 and 10 years in prison respectively.
