Description: Deputy Morton was shot and killed by two intoxicated men at a train station. Deputy Morton was approached by two known moonshiners who asked him if he had a warrant for their arrest. Deputy Morton replied that he did not. The man slapped Deputy Morton and swore at him. A scuffle ensued and the suspect pulled a gun and shot Deputy Morton three times. Deputy Morton died at the scene. His assailant was convicted of murder and hanged for the crime. The second man was sentenced to life in prison.
