Description: Patrolman Murphy and Patrolman Henry Bell were shot as they attempted to arrest two robbery suspects. When Patrolman Murphy answered the dispatch call and arrived at the scene, the suspectŸ??s vehicle drove away with Patrolman Henry Bell at the wheel. Patrolman Murphy overtook the vehicle and forced it to stop. Patrolman Murphy was shot as he dismounted his motorcycle. The suspects then fatally shot Patrolman Bell who was being held hostage. Patrolman Murphy was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries three weeks later on September 13, 1937. Their assailant was convicted of murder and executed.
