Description: On November 23, 1974, Patrolman Maceira was shot in the face with his own gun during a struggle with a suspect. Patrolman Maceira and his partner were questioning two men by the railroad tracks when the attack occurred. Patrolman Maceira was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound that had broken his jaw, damaged his vocal chords and lodged behind his heart. Patrolman Maceira remained in the hospital for several weeks and was unable to return to work. He was placed on MIS (Medical Incapacity Section) status in January 1975. On May 1, 1977 Patrolman Maceira died due to asphyxia.
