Description: Deputy Sheriff McIntosh was shot by an inmate who had escaped from jail. Deputy McIntosh and three deputies went to a house where the suspect had barricaded himself. As the deputies approached the house, the suspect fired twice through the door and struck Deputy McIntosh in the arm and chest. Deputy McIntosh died at the scene. The following year, the suspect shot and killed Tennessee Patrolman John Smith (46-W: 16) and Deputy Hubert Webb (28-W: 11). The suspect was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison.
