Description: Keeper Murphy and Warden Peter Mallon were shot during a prison break at the Tombs Prison facility. Keeper Murphy was confronted by the inmates who demanded the keys and was fatally shot in the head when he refused. Warden Mallon was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and died of his injuries. Two other officers were also shot but survived. The three inmates committed suicide when they were cornered in the prison yard. One of those inmates was implicated in the death of NYC Patrolman Frank Murphy (4-E: 7).
