Description: Patrolman McIntyre was helping to clear the streets during the Civil War draft riots of 1863. During the riot, Patrolman McIntyre was struck with an iron pipe over the head and was beaten when he fell to the ground. Patrolman McIntyre was transported to a local hospital where died of his injuries three weeks later. Patrolmen Edward Dippel, John Starkey and John Van Buren were also killed or fatally wounded during one of a series of riots that collectively became known as the Civil War Draft Riots.
