Description: Officer McDonald responded to a call where a car had crashed into a ditch. Upon arrival, Officer McDonald encountered combative resistance from the couple that occupied the accident vehicle. Witnesses also stated that the driver was driving recklessly prior to the crash. When back-up officers arrived, they witnessed Officer McDonald being assaulted by the couple. While attempting to arrest the suspects Officer McDonald fell into a ditch filled with chemicals. Officer McDonald was covered with unknown chemical and became ill four months later. The death certificate confirmed that the bacterial infection Officer McDonald contracted from falling in the ditch contributed to his death one year later.
