Description: Detective Moran and Detective Chief Fred Montgomery were shot in an exchange of gunfire as they approached a suspect believed to be a member of a kidnapping gang. A third detective shot and killed the suspect. Detective Moran was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the groin and died two days later. Detective Montgomery survived his injuries.
