Description: Officers Martz and Elwin Slater responded to a disturbance at the Palace Drug Store where an intoxicated man was threatening people with a .45 revolver. As Officer Martz stepped forward to talk to the suspect, the man shot him in the neck. As Officer Slater entered the drug store and tried to draw his weapon, he accidentally discharged it and shot himself in the leg. Officer Martz died immediately following the incident, and Officer Slater died a day later from his wound.Shot attempting to arrest the proprietor of a drug store who was drunk and brandishing a 45 revolver.
