Description: Officer McDowell and Officer Eric Brill were attempting to serve a traffic citation to a woman at her home. When the officers knocked at the front door, the suspect's husband fired a shotgun through the door without warning. Officer McDowell was shot once in the head and died instantly. Officer Brill was shot in the face but was able to return to his patrol car. As he radioed for help, he watched in horror as the shooter stood over Officer McDowell's lifeless body and shot him several more times. The man then walked to his backyard and committed suicide.
