Description: Deputy Sheriff Meehan was ambushed and fatally shot in the head while on patrol for chicken thieves. The suspect, a former convict, also shot and killed Butte, Montana Officer Thomas O'Neill a month later on December 25th as he attempted to arrest him on a domestic charge. The suspect was shot and killed by responding officers after barricading himself and holding a family hostage for over twelve hours.
