Description: Marshal Madden was shot and killed by a group of Cherokee Indians who did not want the U.S. Marshal to interfere with the laws concerning their tribe. Members of the tribe had sent Marshal Madden threatening letters if he interfered with any tribal matters. While attempting to settle an argument between two Cherokee brothers, one of the brothers fatally shot Marshal Madden.
