Description: Officer Mines and Sergeant Roy Wright stopped a vehicle behind the Park & Shop Shopping Center on suspicion of a robbery and murder of a gas station attendant that took place earlier that day. The suspect reached for his gun and fatally shot both officers multiple times. Sergeant Wright was shot at point-blank range in the head. Three days later, the suspect was approached by another officer and fled in a stolen car. He sped through an intersection and crashed, killing a motorist. The suspect was arrested, found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. However, a mistrial was declared due to a technicality. A second trial granted the suspect two life sentences and he died in prison in 2004.
