Description: Sheriff McEvoy was shot when he attempted to arrest a murder suspect. Sheriff McEvoy tracked the suspect to a residence and found him hiding in a bedroom. Sheriff McEvoy kicked in the door and was shot in the arm by the suspect. Sheriff McEvoy contracted blood poisoning and died three days later. The suspect was convicted of murder and hanged at San Quentin prison in 1902.
