Description: Patrolman Mehlhorn was shot to death with his own weapon by a suspect who fled from the Martin Hotel after stealing $57 from the hotel cash register. The suspect, Robert Cooney was later shot twice by other officers. At the hospital he later confessed that he had killed Officer Mehlhorn during a struggle. The suspect was left paralyzed and died in prison six years later while serving a term for second degree murder.
