Description: Patrolman Nelke and fellow officers answered a burglary in progress call on January 28, 1951. When they arrived at the building, they were met with a hail of gunfire. Officer Nelke was struck in the neck. Officer Nelke suffered paralysis from the neck down and died of kidney failure as a result of the paralysis 22 years later on November 3, 1973.
