Description: Trooper Nichols was killed in an automobile accident on Highway 56 near Chatom, Alabama. A horse strayed onto the highway and was standing in the roadway. When Trooper Nichols saw the horse it was too late, and the impact crushed the roof and A-frame of the patrol car. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
