Description: Chief Nelson was killed in an automobile accident on Highway 17 during the heavy rains of Hurricane Rita. While responding to the scene of a fatal accident, Chief Nelson's department vehicle hydroplaned and struck several cars before crashing into the base of a bridge. Chief Nelson was transported to a hospital in Meridian, Mississippi where he was pronounced dead.
