Description: Detectives Newberg and Thomas Truesdale were shot by a mentally deranged man wielding a German Luger. Pawtucket Police had surrounded the house and kept the suspect under surveillance for several hours before they entered. Detective Newberg was shot in the abdomen and was pronounced dead on arrival. Detective Truesdale was shot in the chest and died on the operating table. The suspect was arrested after a gunbattle with police.
