Description: Sergeant Newchurch was shot and killed while struggling with a narcotics suspect. Sergeant Newchurch and other Narcotics Officers pursued a suspicious vehicle while working in a high drug traffic area. When the suspects crashed their vehicle, the officers attempted to arrest the suspects. An officer's service weapon accidentally discharged in the struggle, striking Sergeant Newchurch in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. (Friendly fire)
