Description: Deputy Sheriff Nelson was shot by a man to whom the deputy had issued a warning the day before because he was causing a public disturbance. The man, armed with a Winchester rifle, approached Deputy Nelson and shot him twice in the chest and arm. Deputy Nelson died several hours later. His assailant was convicted of murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
