Description: Patrolman Nichols was riding north on Broad Street to serve as an escort for a parade when his motorcycle hit an obstruction in the road, veered out of control and struck the safety isle. Patrolman Nichols was thrown backwards and landed on his head. He was quickly transported to the hospital but died a few hours later of a fractured skull.
