Description: Marshal Noe was alerted by a citizen that a motorist was driving wildly up and down Main Street. Marshal Noe stopped the car and told the two intoxicated men that they were going to jail. The passenger turned over his pistol but the driver, Harry Young pulled a revolver and shot Marshal Noe. Marshal Noe?s bullet-ridden body was found the next day lying in a ditch. The suspects were on the loose until January 2, 1932 when six lawmen were killed trying to apprehend members of the Harry Young Gang: Greene County Sheriff Marcell Hendrix, Deputy Ollie Crosswhite, Deputy Wiley Mashburn, Springfield Police Chief Detective Tony Oliver, Detective Sidney Meadows and Officer Charley Houser. The suspects escaped and fled to Texas. When lawmen surrounded the residence where they were hiding, both suspects committed suicide.This incident became known as the Young Brothers Massacre.
