Description: Technical Trooper Newport suffered a fatal heart attack while at home after completing his shift. Trooper Newport and another officer responded to a call regarding a fleeing burglary suspect. Trooper Newport and the officer were positioned on opposite sides of the highway to deploy stop sticks to apprehend the suspect vehicle that was approaching at approximately 100 mph. The officer deployed the stop sticks and stopped the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody by responding officers. Trooper Newport ended his shift about an hour later and went home. Later that evening he was transported to the hospital where he died of a heart attack.
