Description: Chief Nolen and Officer L. Harris arrested a suspect for bootlegging. The suspect was allowed to re-enter the house for his hat and coat. When the suspect did not return, the officers entered the house and were shot at by the suspect. Chief Nolen was shot in the abdomen and died the next day. Officer Harris took the suspect into custody. Before the suspect could be formally charged, he was lynched by an angry mob.
