Description: In 2001, Detective Newman, while off duty, was shot and wounded by a suspect. Detective Newman testified against the suspect and the man was sentenced to 30 years in prison. On November 23, 2002, Detective Newman was fatally shot five times by three suspects in an act of retaliation. The suspects who shot and killed Detective Newman, were friends and relatives of the man who wounded Detective Newman in 2001.
