Description: Sheriff Oglesby attempted to arrest three hobos who had jumped aboard a train without paying. The hobos fired approximately 10 shots at Sheriff Oglesby, striking him twice. Undaunted, Sheriff Oglesby returned fire, killing one suspect and wounding the others. Sheriff Oglesby died an hour later from a gunshot wound to the chest. Two of the suspects escaped but were later caught by law enforcement officers.
