Description: Patrolmen Cal Palmer and Ralph Knarr answered a call at a tavern. The owner was concerned about a suspicious customer. When the officers approached the man and asked him to step outside, he reached under the table for a gun and began firing. Patrolman Palmer died instantly of three gunshot wounds to the chest. Patrolman Knarr was also wounded but survived. The suspect fled but was killed by police officers who were attempting to arrest him.
