Description: Patrolman Platner and Jailer Thomas Sloane responded to a call to investigate a burglary in progress at a local residence. When the suspect saw the officers he fled. Patrolman Planter and Jailer Sloane pursued the suspect on foot. As Jailer Sloane attempted to climb a fence, his weapon fell to the ground and fired a shot striking Patrolman Platner two inches below his heart. He was transported to the local General Hospital where he died the next day. (Friendly fire.)
