Description: Captain Purdin was on duty escorting a funeral possession when he was struck from behind. Captain Purdin was on his department-issued Harley Davidson when he was hit. He suffered a broken leg and a fracture of the right thigh. Captain Purdin's leg did not heal right and it was amputated. While recuperating in the hospital, Captain Purdin died after a blood clot traveled from his injured leg to his heart and lungs.
