Description: Marshal Putnam was shot from behind by a sniper as he stood in the general store. The neck wound was fatal and Marshal Putnam died at the scene. Two suspects were caught. The primary suspect claimed that he shot Marshal Putnam because he heard that the Marshal was threatening to kill him because he testified against the Marshal in a court case. Regardless, the suspect was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. The second suspect was acquitted of all charges.
