Description: On November 17, 2009, Correctional Officer Pounds was assaulted by an inmate at the Neuse Correctional facility and sustained serious injuries. Officer Pounds returned to work in January 2010 but became ill and was transported to the hospital where he died on January 9, 2010. The medical examiner linked Officer Pound's death to the assault and ruled his death as a homicide. The inmate was charged with murder.
