Description: Captain Pike was shot to death as the climax to an investigation by police and state officials into local robberies. Pike and policeman Russell Bernau set up a stakeout, having been tipped off that the robbers would appear. When a car pulled up, the driver panned the area with a flashlight, shining directly onto Capatin Pike. Pike opened fire, as well as Bernau and shots were returned. Pike fell with three bullets in his body and died a few hours later at a local hospital.
