Description: Patrolman Papaianni and his partner William Gorman responded to a silent hold-up alarm at the First Federal Savings Bank at Menlo Park Mall. Upon arrival at the bank, the officers were fired upon by the bank robber. Patrolman Papaianni sustained gunshot wounds to the chest, and died in surgery approximately two hours later.
