Description: Turnkey Pfliiger was shot and killed by an inmate who was attempting to escape the Charlestown State Prison. A headcount revealed that a prisoner was missing. The alarm was sounded and Turnkey Pfliiger was among those looking for the escapee. As Turnkey Pfliiger approached where the inmate was hiding, the inmate emerged and opened fire, killing him. The inmate exchanged fire with the other prison guards before being taken into custody.
