Description: Guard Preston was shot and killed as four inmates escaped from the Wynne Prison Farm near Madisonville, Texas. The prisoners obtained a key to the prison arsenal and armed themselves. Guard Preston was shot before he could exit the guard cage. The prisoners then stole the Warden's car and escaped. All four fugitives were recaptured. Guard Preston's assailant was sentenced to death but the verdict was later remanded and he received a life sentence.
