Description: Officer Pahler was directing traffic when he was hailed by a passing truck driver who had spotted a man with a rifle. The man, Herman Klink, immediately shot at Officer Pahler. Risking his life, a civilian ran over to Pahler, dragged him into his car, and took the wounded officer to the hospital where he died the next day. Klink was a mentally deranged spree killer, who suffered from "dementia praecox."
