Description: Sergeant Purdy and Police Officer Michael Conley drowned while saving residents during the Big Thompson Canyon Flood. Sergeant Purdy's cruiser was swept away when he drove into the canyon to warn citizens to evacuate the area. Over 140 people died in this incident, which was Colorado's worst natural disaster.
